Send feedback from PackPilot
Tap the ⓘ icon on the Home screen, then Send Feedback. That attaches your app version automatically, which saves a round trip.

How do I join the beta?
PackPilot 1.0 isn't on the App Store yet — it's finishing up in TestFlight, Apple's free beta platform. Everything you need is on the beta page: the join link, the device requirements, what we'd like you to try, and how to send feedback.
You don't need an Apple Developer account and it costs nothing. You do need an iPhone or iPad on iOS 17 or later, and you need to open the join link on that device — on a desktop browser it can't install anything.
How do I scan a container?
On Home, tap Start new pack, name it, pick a space type, then choose a scan method. Live Scan is the default: move your phone around inside the container and it captures the real interior volume from live scene depth. Prefer to do it by hand? Choose AR Trace, aim at the floor of the container until the white reticle appears and the floor locks, tap each of the four floor corners in the order the on-screen card names them — rear-left first, then rear-right, front-right, front-left — then drag up to set the height.
On the confirm card you can drag any of the Width / Depth / Height cells to scrub the value, or use the − / + buttons to nudge by 0.1. The live wireframe updates as you change them. Nothing is saved until you confirm.
No AR device, or scanning a space you can't get to? Choose Enter manually instead and type the dimensions. Every downstream feature works identically.
How do I scan an item?
After setting up the container, tap Add an item on the Items screen and pick a scan method — Live Scan or AR Trace. It's the same flow as scanning a container, just smaller. In the confirmation sheet, set the Shape (box, bag, cylinder, or irregular) and the packing constraints — whether it must stay upright, whether anything can stack on it, whether you need to reach it first — and optionally attach a photo so you recognise it in the list later.
Those constraints are what make the plan smart, so it's worth thirty seconds per item.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free includes AR Trace and manual dimension entry, one complete complimentary Live Pack (Live Scan for a destination space and the items in that same pack), one active saved pack of up to 8 items, Easiest Load, the 3D plan, and the AR Placement Guide, plus browsing and reusing the Community Contributed catalog. AR Trace and manual entry stay free; automated Live Scan becomes premium after your complimentary Live Pack.
Pro removes the caps and adds:
- Ongoing unlimited Live Scan for spaces and items
- Unlimited packs and items
- Saved Spaces and Saved Items libraries, so you can reuse anything you've measured
- All three optimization modes — Tightest Fit and Best Access in addition to Easiest Load
- Recalculate on the fly, to swap modes and re-solve mid-pack
- PDF export with top-down and side placement diagrams
- File import and export for packs, spaces, and items
There are two ways to get Pro: the 30-Day Project Pass gives you full Pro access for 30 days and does not auto-renew (it ends automatically and is not charged again), and Pro Lifetime is a one-time purchase for permanent access. Why doesn't scanning work?
Live Scan and AR Trace need an iPhone or iPad that supports ARKit (anything made in roughly the last six years does) and Camera permission. Live Scan additionally relies on the device's scene depth sensing; if a space won't capture with Live Scan, try AR Trace, which works by tapping corners. If you start a scan and see "AR isn't available," either the device doesn't support it or Camera permission is off. Go to Settings → PackPilot → Camera to re-enable it.
If a scan starts but struggles to lock on:
- ARKit needs visual texture. Blank carpet, plain walls, and dim rooms are hard for it.
- Move the phone slowly and give it a moment on the floor before tapping corners.
- If the wireframe starts to shimmer or slide after a lot of camera motion, use Re-align from the toolbar menu.
How accurate are the scans?
Scans are estimates, typically within 5–10%. Always check the captured dimensions in the confirmation sheet and adjust anything that looks off before saving. For a tight-fitting pack, manual entry of known dimensions is more accurate than any scan.
Captures are bounding boxes rather than true meshes: a cylinder is captured as the box that contains it, and a soft bag is captured at its current bulged size. Trim oversized scans before saving.
How does Find a Container work?
From Home, tap Find a Container, add the items you need to pack, then tap Continue. PackPilot scores a catalog of common containers — moving boxes, storage totes, suitcases, shipping boxes, and vehicle spaces — against your item set and recommends the best match. Pick one and the pack is solved automatically.
Two limits worth knowing: recommendations only come from that built-in catalog, and it recommends a single container rather than splitting your items across two. If nothing fits, measure your real container with Start new pack instead — and with Pro you can save it for reuse.
What is Community Contributed?
If you opt in, you can share a scanned space or item to the Community Contributed catalog so other people can pack against it. Submitting sends a scan record to a moderation server: its dimensions, type/category, a model label, provenance, verification state, and — if you're an approved contributor — attribution. It does not send photos, your location, free-typed text, or your precise identity. Every submission is moderated before it's published, and once approved it becomes a ready-to-use entry alongside the built-in catalog, so the library of real-world measured spaces and items keeps growing. Entries are retained, correctable, reportable, and removable. What a submission includes and how it's handled is covered in the privacy policy.
Where is my data?
The packs, spaces, and items you create stay on your device. Two things do involve a network: PackPilot fetches the Community Contributed catalog from a server, and if you opt in to contribute, submitting a scan sends its dimensions and metadata (but never photos, location, or free-typed text) to a moderation server. Purchases also go through Apple's StoreKit. Deleting the app removes everything on your device except your Pro purchase, which Apple records against your Apple ID and which you can restore at any time.
There's no iCloud sync in this release, so a delete-and-reinstall or a new device starts empty. With Pro you can export your packs, spaces, and items as files first. Full detail in the privacy policy.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are issued by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and find the PackPilot purchase. Apple typically responds within 48 hours. If something in the app pushed you to ask for one, we'd genuinely like to hear why — feedback@packpilot.io.
How do I restore Pro on a new device?
Open PackPilot, tap Go Pro on Home (or open any Pro-gated feature), then tap Restore Purchase in the paywall. Purchases are tied to your Apple ID, so as long as you're signed in with the same account:
- Pro Lifetime restores permanently on any device.
- An active 30-Day Project Pass restores while its 30-day access period is still valid. Because it does not auto-renew, once the 30 days end there is nothing to restore.
- Reinstalling the app does not create another complimentary Live Pack. The one free Live Pack is a one-time grant recorded on each device (not tied to your Apple ID), so it does not reset on reinstall and does not sync across your devices.
If it reports "No prior purchase found," confirm you're signed into the Apple ID that bought it, then try again in a few minutes — Apple occasionally takes a moment to propagate. Live Scan availability also depends on your device supporting ARKit and scene depth; AR Trace and manual entry are the free fallback on any supported device.
Can I use centimetres instead of inches?
Yes. Every dimension field has an IN / CM toggle, and the choice sticks. Measurements are shown in monospaced figures throughout so the columns don't shift as numbers change.
