Open this on the iPhone or iPad you'll test on — the link hands you to TestFlight, which only exists on iOS. Currently testing 1.0.0 (6).
Any ARKit-compatible iPhone or iPad works — roughly anything from the last six years, and LiDAR is not required. Manual entry works on every supported device, including iPad without LiDAR, but the AR flows are where the app earns its keep.
Three steps, about two minutes.
Install TestFlight
Apple's free app for running betas. Get it from the App Store if you don't already have it — PackPilot installs through it rather than through the App Store directly.
Tap the join link
It hands you straight to TestFlight and adds PackPilot to your available builds. You don't need an Apple Developer account, and we never see your email address — Apple handles enrolment.
Install PackPilot and open it
You'll land on a four-screen onboarding flow. Don't skip it on the first run — whether it makes sense unaided is one of the things we need to know.
Open the join link on the iPhone or iPad you'll test on. On a desktop browser it only shows instructions — it can't install anything. If you're reading this on a computer, send yourself the link or open packpilot.io/beta on your phone.
Four passes. Roughly fifteen minutes.
You don't have to do all of it, and you don't have to do it in order. But this is the path that tells us the most. Bring a bin or an open trunk and two or three things you'd actually pack.
Cold open
Walk the onboarding screens. On Home, tap Try sample pack — a sedan trunk and five items, pre-loaded. Solve it, read the results, spin the 3D preview.
Tell us: did the first launch make sense? Did you know what each button would do before you tapped it?
Scan something real
Start new pack → name it → pick a space type → choose a scan method. Live Scan sweeps the interior with scene depth as you move the phone around inside; AR Trace lets you aim at the floor, tap the four corners in the order the card names, and drag up to set the height.
Tell us: were the captured dimensions within about 10% of reality? Try both Live Scan and AR Trace — which felt more accurate?
Add what goes in it
Scan each item the same way — Live Scan or AR Trace — or type the dimensions. Set the shape and the constraints — upright only, nothing stacks on this, keep it reachable — then solve the pack.
Tell us: did the plan match how you'd have packed it? If not, where did it go wrong?
Walk it in AR
From Results, tap Start packing. Tap the front-left then front-right base corner of the real container to align. A green wireframe locks on and an orange ghost shows where the current item goes. Free for everyone
Tell us: did the ghosts stay aligned, or drift? Did it actually help you load faster than reading a list?
Did the scan capture the container's dimensions accurately?
Did the packing plan make sense, or would you have packed it differently?
Did the AR Placement Guide stay aligned to the real container, or did it drift?
Did anything crash, freeze, or look broken?
Real scenarios beat staged ones. A plan only matters when it has to fit a real trunk before a real trip — use it on something you actually need to pack.
Nothing in the beta costs money.
On TestFlight, in-app purchases run as Apple sandbox transactions — testers are never charged. Please exercise both the purchase and the restore flow: the purchase round-trip is one of the things we most need confirmed.
What's free: AR Trace and manual entry, plus one complete complimentary Live Pack (Live Scan for a space and its items in that same pack). Ongoing automated Live Scan and the rest of Pro are unlocked by a paid plan — the 30-Day Project Pass or Pro Lifetime. Final launch pricing is not yet live; the App Store shows the authoritative price at checkout.
Two ways, both read by a person.
PackPilot has no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. That's a deliberate privacy choice, and it has one consequence: if you don't tell us, we genuinely do not know.
From inside the app
Tap the ⓘ icon on Home → Send Feedback. This attaches your app version and device automatically, which saves a round trip. Best for "this specific thing broke."
By email
feedback@packpilot.io. Better for longer thoughts, screenshots, or screen recordings. Include your device model and iOS version.
TestFlight's own feedback
Screenshot inside the app and TestFlight offers to send it to us with a note attached. Fastest way to report something visual.
Before you ask.
How rough is it, honestly?
The full loop works — scan, solve, preview, AR walkthrough, export. What's rough is around the edges: AR struggles on featureless surfaces, captures are bounding boxes rather than true shapes, and the solver is a good heuristic rather than an optimal one. We keep a public, specific list at Known limitations. Read it before you file something — if it's on there, we already know, though telling us it bit you in practice is still useful.
What data do you collect from beta testers?
There's no account and no third-party analytics or advertising SDK. The packs, spaces, and items you create stay on your device, and the camera is used live for AR measurement — no frames are recorded or transmitted. Two features do reach a network: PackPilot fetches the Community Contributed catalog from a server, and if you opt in to contribute, submitting a scan sends its dimensions and metadata (never photos, location, or free-typed text) to a moderation server. Purchases also go through Apple StoreKit. Apple sees your TestFlight enrolment and any crash reports you've opted into sharing; we don't. Full detail in the privacy policy.
Will the packs I create survive into the 1.0 release?
Yes. Saved packs, spaces, and items persist across builds, and the storage format migrates forward. Two caveats: everything is local to that device with no iCloud sync in this release, so deleting the app or switching devices starts you over; and if you're on Pro you can export to files first as a backup.
Do I need to be a developer, or pay Apple anything?
No to both. TestFlight is free and you don't need an Apple Developer account. You just need the join link and an iPhone or iPad on iOS 17 or later.
How long does a beta build last?
Apple expires each TestFlight build 90 days after upload. When one lapses, TestFlight will show the build as expired and you'll get the next one automatically if you've kept notifications on.
How do I leave the beta?
Open TestFlight, tap PackPilot, scroll down and tap Stop Testing. That's it — no email required and nothing to cancel. Deleting the app removes all its data from your device.
Anything else, the support page covers scanning, AR troubleshooting, accuracy, Free versus Pro, and restoring purchases.
